When Night Falls

I had dinner with Irma and Brandi last night at Chateau Marmont, where we talked about a recent party hosted by Cindy Gallop in her famed The Black Apartment.

True to her word, Brandi sent me a video of Ms. Gallop's place and I'm hooked! Must follow her twitter feed ASAP! XO

Happy Wednesday

Every time I look at this picture, I want to climb the steps and sit atop admiring the view of the candlelit votives and what I imagine is a vacant square below - perhaps with the soundtrack of a street musician playing to a crowd in the distance.

Definitely A Fan of: Christina Hendricks

I may have said this before, but I can be repetitive. Yes, for all the reasons people are excited about her - but she makes me want to become a redhead! Is that possible?

Check out the new article about her in New York magazine. XO

Hearts Make Me Happy

I really did it now! I know, I know. They're plastic. But I've loved them for some time now.
And I read a review that said they were comfortable (I'm very worried about teetering about in skinny/high heels on a certain day in May and the eventual pain!).

Plus they just look so happy! If shoes could smile, they'd definitely look like this:

Moral of the Story: The Loveliest Surprises.

Seem to come out of nowhere.

Happy Friday to you! XO

PS. I missed this short series, so I think I will revive it from time to time.

More LOVE

This video makes me want to dress up and go about town (with the video soundtrack, on repeat, in my head). XO

Out of Print

I find there are some people who view bookshelves as a way to quickly surmise another's intellect. Is that sad?

I like to think that someone's intellect (and personality) is comprised by so much more than a personal library, whether or not he/she watches TV, drives a hybrid or drinks single origin coffee.

How I've come to assemble my own library, has been based on school, book clubs, friends' recommendations and I daresay (gulp) covers? It's true! Now I may be judged by the t-shirts I wear. XO

RTW Love!

Temperley of London and Lanvin wedding dresses? It's true.

I already purchased a gown I love, but these would make a beautiful bride, in a jiffy (via overnight shipping from Net-A-Porter).

Winter vs. Spring, LA vs. NY

I know I was just talking about Spring yesterday, but after spying a friend's photos of her recent trip to NYC, then these photos this morning - I sort of want to be there, walking around, stylishly bundled up. Right now.

The grass is always greener isn't it? XO

The Modern Proverbs

I heartily laughed out loud when I stumbled upon these. Especially the last one!

P.S.

I've grown accustomed to having a bite of Red Velvet cake on Valentine's Day, even if the tradition is only 1 year old. Sadly, while on our little getaway trip to Paso Robles this past weekend, none could be found!

Today is Fat Tuesday, so I supposed tonight is a good night to indulge before swearing off sweets. And I hope you had a lovely holiday + Valentine weekend! XO

Rebecca Taylor Spring 2010

I'm really loving these looks by Rebecca Taylor, for a non-client meeting day at the office, or cocktails with the girls, after work.

They also remind me of a nice bright coral lipstick, delicate gold dangly earrings and loosely pulled up hair. A lovely way to bring Spring into a wardrobe!

Midday Lullaby

It's a rare and lovely thing to be typing away near a window.

An open window, that looks into a garden - green from recent rain. The sounds of mellow wind chimes, chattering birds, the occasional "kaw" from a crow and the sounds of the city, not far away - carried in by a cool breeze.

Too pretty to sleep through, but an inspiring soundtrack for an afternoon.

BECAUSE I CAN for PABLOVE

I've been working with Mr. W and Carrie on this site for some time now.

And we just launched the beta version yesterday! Our inaugural fundraising project will coincide with the 2010 LA Marathon on March 21.

Mr. W, Stephanie, Erin and Anna will be running as the Because I Can team, for PABLOVE.

Here's some info from our first email announcement:

Introducing Because I Can.

Soon you will be able to create your own fundraising page and start raising money for ANY cause of your choice, from school events to local organizations, sports teams to churches - anything! You name it and we can help you.

In order to demonstrate how the site will work, we've created a page for Team Because I Can as we prepare to run the
2010 LA Marathon.

Because I Can supports people like you who want to make a difference. I am so proud of this venture and can't wait to see all the wonderful ways you will raise money for the causes you are passionate about. Our goal is to empower ordinary people to do extraordinary things. To be a friend. To make a difference. To save a life. Because I can. Because you can. Because WE can.

Please repost and donate if you can. Small efforts in large numbers can make a big impact too!

XO

Just a touch at J. Crew

I'm really enjoying this shoe from J. Crew. A sliver of neon is all you need to brighten up the Winter gloom.

Their collections recently have been really impressive, and the styling inspires possibilities. Jenna Lyons has been doing a fantastic job at the helm, don't you think?

In Honor of Valentine's Day this week.

An EPIC song, and certainly one of my all-time favorites, that we were crazily dancing to this weekend (and giggling all the way through, in the process).

Isn't that the best way to dance with someone you love? XO

Cooper Black Italic

I love Pentagram. I love type. But I'm not sure I love the type that Pentagram says "fits" me. Or maybe I don't like what it says about me. Hmmm.

Maybe I need to retake the test. I could have sworn I was an Archer. XO

High Tea

Another idea for the books.

I'm a life long Angeleno, but at times I'm quite jealous of NYC, for many reasons. One in particular is that they have Tea and Sympathy.

We need a real tea shop in LA, preferably downtown. I know there's tea service at The Langham and at The Huntington Library, but we need something for everyday! A place with a cozy dining area (but not kitschy or too precious - more modern like Huckleberry or The Rose Bakery in Paris), serving proper scones, tea sandwiches, and counter service with pastries, sandwiches and tea to go.

And let's not forget the British accents. XO

New-ness on the Walls

Mr. W and I recently framed some prints that were sitting in a tube for far too long. It was a good way of injecting some freshness into the house.

I'm a big typography fan, and I love words. Hence the simplicity of the art.

Above Mr. W's dresser.

On my side of our bedroom.

In our den (and a little blurry) - this print reads:
Kill Them With Kindness.
We thought it was especially funny under the Western Pronghorn trophy we picked up at a flea market.

Masquerade Tuesday

After seeing this couple's wedding, I really want to steal an idea of theirs for my own.

So fancy! Plus dancing is much more fun while in disguise (at least for a wall flower like me). XO

The Rules

I've always loved the artist Corita Kent.

One, because she taught at Immaculate Heart college - which no longer exists but was connected to my high school in Los Feliz. Two, because her work was really provocative and inspiring. I like to call her work peace propaganda, not that that's really accurate or fair. However, if there was ever a proponent for peace and justice in art, she was.

And then there are her rules.

Rule I

FIND A PLACE YOU TRUST AND THEN TRY TRUSTING IT FOR A WHILE.

Rule 2

GENERAL DUTIES OF A STUDENT:
PULL EVERYTHING OUT OF YOUR TEACHER.
PULL EVERYTHING OUT OF YOUR FELLOW STUDENTS.

Rule 3

GENERAL DUTIES OF A TEACHER:
PULL EVERYTHING OUT OF YOUR STUDENTS.

Rule 4

CONSIDER EVERYTHING AN EXPERIMENT.

Rule 5

BE SELF DISCIPLINED. THIS MEANS
FINDING SOMEONE WISE OR SMART AND
CHOOSING TO FOLLOW THEM.
TO BE DISCIPLINED IS TO FOLLOW IN A GOOD WAY.
TO BE DISCIPLINED IS TO FOLLOW IN A BETTER WAY.

Rule 6

NOTHING IS A MISTAKE. THERE’S NO WIN AND
NO FAIL. THERE’S ONLY MAKE.

Rule 7

The only rule is work.
IF YOU WORK IT WILL LEAD TO SOMETHING.
IT’S THE PEOPLE WHO DO ALL OF THE WORK ALL THE TIME
WHO EVENTUALLY CATCH ON TO THINGS.

Rule 8

DON’T TRY TO CREATE AND ANALYZE AT THE
SAME TIME. THEY’RE DIFFERENT PROCESSES.

Rule 9

BE HAPPY WHENEVER YOU CAN MANAGE IT.
ENJOY YOURSELF. IT’S LIGHTER THAN YOU
THINK.

Rule 10

"WE’RE BREAKING ALL OF THE RULES. EVEN OUR OWN RULES. AND HOW DO WE DO THAT BY LEAVING PLENTY OF ROOM FOR X QUANTITIES." JOHN CAGE

HELPFUL HINTS: ALWAYS BE AROUND. COME OR GO TO EVERY- THING. ALWAYS GO TO CLASSES. READ ANYTHING YOU CAN GET YOUR HANDS ON. LOOK AT MOVIES CAREFULLY, OFTEN. SAVE EVERYTHING, IT MIGHT COME IN HANDY LATER. THERE SHOULD BE NEW RULES NEXT WEEK.
