Wishing I was back in Paris today.

Life ain't bad, but days like today I daydream about Paris, rain or shine, walking around hand-in-hand with my Mr. W.

Happy Wednesday! XO

Loved capturing this photo through a fence from a park across the Rue de Rivoli.

We ALMOST took this little one home. Almost.

Bright spot on a rainy day

My friend Jeanette just clued me in to the fact that a photo from our wedding appeared on yesterday's 100 Layer Cake!  See the photo, from the site, below on the left.

If there's a photo sale by Our Labor of Love (our photographers) - brides better get in queue! They were amazing to work with.

I love this shot so much.  Being in that turquoise pick up (that seriously just happened to be there) was one of the more memorable moments of our day.

It's hard to believe that was almost 2 years ago AND that I chopped off all my hair!

Thanks Jeanette - XO.

Every celebration needs some sort of cake.

So what is it with Wednesday's being National _______ Days? Yesterday was National Margarita Day.  I didn't celebrate. Next Wednesday is National Pancake Day (or is it the end of National Pancake Week?).

Whatever the reason, I love pancakes and I plan to celebrate (likely at dinner time- the reason will be self evident below).

I'm very particular about my pancakes.  They need to be fluffy with a mottled and webbed toast on the exterior (if that makes sense). I don't mind a little crisp edges, but not greasy and not crunchy.  Secretly, I would really like to order a tall stack,  like six pancakes tall. And eat the whole thing. By myself, no judgment.  I like to keep my pancakes simple. No fruit, no whipped cream, no crazy special additions.  Just simple cakes, real maple syrup and a cold pat of salted butter.

Is that possible?  Of course I'd need to nap afterwards.  That's what carbs do.

Living The Life

I was so excited to read the latest issue of Food and Wine magazine and find my neighborhood featured in it. It wasn't really about Echo Park, but about a couple (Christopher Wilcox and Sera Pelle) who are doing some really cool things in art and food with family, friends, a few hens and their garden farm.

This picture really makes me want to have some chickens!

I'd like to look this gorgeous while cooking!

A fun atmosphere to host a family style meal.

Inspiring.  I immediately showed it to Mr. W and said we should be living like this!  Definitely a piece to go up on the vision board.

Pick up the issue or read about it HERE!

Home Made

Image from Tumblr

Been having lots of conversations over lots of coffee over "made in America."

Not a new idea.  But if we want things to get better here at home, maybe we should be making conscious decisions to look at where things are manufactured.  I think we've gotten a little spoiled about how cheap things can be - that it's hard to put $20 down for something you can get for $4.99.

I think that's why the artisan movement is so important, because you get details and nuances that aren't available in mass production.

I've been a fan of the Brooklyn brand Hayden Harnett (and recently acquired a handbag).  Totally psyched to see that they're sourcing and manufacturing in America!  Check out their neat little video below.

Remember this post?

My extremely observant husband picked up on my hint and set sail on a secret mission via the internet to place the order.  I wondered - if he were to buy one for me, what would he inscribe?

Now I know.

Pretty box

Little certificate to go with the necklace

Not sure if you can see - but it reads: WE ARE SO LUCKY

The other side simply says: XO

And me wearing it (check out that grateful grin)

Check out: Pardon My French/Episode 1

Aside from being back to posting on my blog regularly, my day is typically brightened by reading one of Garance Dore's posts.  She's so funny and seemingly down to earth - it's endearing.

Now I can geek out even more because today she posted the first installment of her video series.

Enjoy! XO

2012 Valentine's Day

Happy Hearts Day!

Anything fun planned?  Mr. W and I are having a quiet dinner at home (he's cooking!).
I'm going to try and hurry home this evening to snap some photos of him in the cooking process - there's nothing sexier than a man in the kitchen, cooking for his lady!

Hope you have a fantastic day full of love <3

2012 Grammys: Black & Gold

I was fortunate enough to attend last night's Grammys - it was definitely an amazing experience.  Seeing award shows on TV don't do the production and performances justice. When you go to events like these, you really see how photogenic and pretty the LA/entertainment/aspiring set really is.  Re: the fashion front, I was really digging the black and gold outfits.  My favorite celebrity frocks were mostly unadorned - which was a nice standout against the sea of sequins and spangles.  Some of my favorites below.

Corinne Bailey Rae
Lush and girly.

Alicia Keys
Apparently her look was controversial, but I thought she looked amazing.
Loved her pompadour!

Hotness personified.

Gwyneth Paltrow
Modern and sculpted.

Totally last minute and unintentional, I actually wore black and gold. A simple black asymmetrical dress from BCBG Runway and a gold clutch with chain shoulder strap and black and gold heels which were surprisingly comfortable all night - and a total score to boot!

I stopped in to see my husband who was at a different Grammys event downtown and we did an quick, impromptu photoshoot in an empty lot.
I liked this one because my sparkly gold accents were best seen from behind!

Love in Dusty Rose

I have my eye on these special edition Love Me screenprints, by Curtis Kulig, over at Poster Child Prints!

I can see these over my desk space at the office, or even in my lady lair (whenever that happens!).

 Happy Friday! XO

High Flying Valentine

Such a fan of Geronimo Balloons - a fun little company based in downtown Los Angeles.
And, of course, they've got a special Valentine themed balloon bouquet!

How fun would it be to give or receive one of these deliveries at the office?  As you know, I'm a little late on the Valentine planning wagon this year! But perhaps they're still taking orders!  XO

Trolling for Valentines on Etsy

I know all the craziness around February 14 day is just manufactured to get people to spend more money BUT you have the admit, the day's sentiment is a nice one.  It's a nice occasion to tell someone you are intrigued, interested, smitten, head over heels, in like or in love with him/her!

And sometimes we need that little push outside of our comfort zone to make the magic happen.  Even if you've been with someone awhile, it's always nice to hear the good stuff!

Some fun and unique cards over at Etsy to boldly carry your message! XO

February 14 is coming up fast!

Oh my goodness! It's only 7 days until Valentine's Day.

Since we're now an old married couple we no longer woo each other with fancy things. But I still fancy things! (pun intended)

I have my eyes on these little trinkets from Erica Weiner. What are your plans? XO

Scenes from this weekend

Last week was rough - with me under the weather and keeping the whole house awake with my coughing. So this weekend was decidedly low key. I can't even remember what we did Friday night! Saturday was a lot of errand running and then band rehearsal.
The band sounds really good! I'm still working on playing in front of people. What often happens is that I'm fine playing alone or in front of Mr. W, but when Todd and Rachel come around I sort of get amnesia.

Here are some shots from rehearsal. Mr. W was amazed that I could play, take photos and text at the same time. It wasn't very smooth. But I take my photo-journalist roles very seriously!

Mr. W <3

You can't really see in the photo below, but that's Troy and Vida visiting us after rehearsal.
Gave us a reason to try out our chiminea and drink more beer.

Oh and I got a hair cut on Sunday.
I've now had it short for a few months, but I added the bangs.
(sorry for the self portrait, but Mr. W unable to take my photo at the time)

Happy Monday! XO
